RYE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women’s ice hockey team scored twice in the second period and twice more in the third period to earn the 4-1 victory over ECAC Conference opponent UMass-Boston on Saturday afternoon from the Playland Ice Casino in Rye, N.Y.

The first period was controlled for the majority of the time by UMass-Boston who came out strong after a difficult loss the night before to Nichols College. The Beacons ended the period outshooting Manhattanville by a 7-6 margin, the difference in shots was also the difference in the scoring as the Beacons scored on a dump in from neutral ice that tied up junior
Emy Cote (Saint-Hubert, Quebec/Dawson College) and gave the Beacons a 1-0 lead.

Entering the second period the Valiants came out with a better approach and completed their passes at a much better level and it showed in terms of second period shots as the Valiants took 16 to the Beacons’ six. At 8:51 the Beacons took a body checking call and after the whistle took a cross-checking call as well and gave the Valiants a 5-3 skating advantage.

On the power play, junior
Lauren Nutkevitch (Montreal, Quebec/Dawson College) ripped a slap shot from the top of the offensive zone and picked the top left corner of the goal to tie the game at one apiece. The assists on the Valiant goal came from classmate
Alyssa Taylor (Craik, Saskatchewan/Sait Polytechnic (ACAC)). About two and a half minutes later the Valiants struck again as junior
Jessica Kehoe (Kemptville, Ontario/Nepean Wildcats (PWHL)) hit the back of the goal after receiving a pass from senior
Jackie Solomito (Sea Cliff, N.Y./Niagara University (CHA)).

The Valiants took their 2-1 lead into the third period and both sides played a bit more evenly matched period in comparison to the first two frames. Both sides skated five aside throughout the majority of the period aside from a two-minute minor that the Valiants killed off with ease. As the game began to wind down the Valiants took a shot from the near side boards as freshman
Alla Traun (Edina, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds (JWHL)) flipped it towards the net that was tipped in by classmate
Aubrey Bachand (Harwichport, Mass./Vermont Academy) for her second of the season with 1:48 to go.

Down two goals the Beacons pulled their goalie Leah Hallett and despite the extra skater, UMass-Boston coughed up the puck to Taylor who sent a lead pass to sophomore
Haleigh Hutchinson (Allen Park, Mich./Honeybaked (TOEHL)) who shot the puck from just inside the offensive blue line to ice the victory and give Manhattanville the 4-1 victory.

In goal, Cote collected her fourth win of the season while denying 21 shots over her 60 minutes of ice time. Taking the loss for UMass-Boston was Hallett who allowed the three Valiant tallies while stoning 29 others that were sent her way.

On the power play, Manhattanville went 1-of-4 as Nutkevitch’s goal was on the skater advantage. Meanwhile UMass-Boston went 0-for-5 on the power play.
