DES MOINES, Iowa – For the second time in his pro career, former Valiant All-American
Mickey Lang '11 will be only a single step away from the National Hockey League after signing a deal with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League, Iowa General Manager Jim Mill announced on Tuesday.
Lang, who spent time with the
AHL's Rockford IceHogs last season, is already just the second former Valiant to skate with an AHL team, joining Neil Clark '06, who spent parts of two seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Rochester Americans from 2007-09.
The Reno, Nevada, native joins the Wild, the AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, after splitting time between the Fort Wayne Komets and the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL this season. In 32 combined ECHL games, the forward has 22 goals and 16 assists for 38 points, earning him the promotion to the second-highest level of professional hockey in North America.
Since graduating from Manhattanville, Lang has continued to achieve the success he had on campus. In three years as a pro, Lang has averaged over a point a game, having scored 82 goals with 79 assists for 161 points in 158 career games. He spent his first two years playing for the Quad City Mallards of the CHL before his stint in the ECHL this season.
A 2011 graduate of Manhattanville, Lang finished his decorated four-year career second all-time in goals at the school, scoring 47 goals with 46 assists for 93 points in a Valiant uniform. He had his breakout season as a junior, when he was named an AHCA All-America first-team selection and the ECAC West Conference Player of the Year after scoring 22 goals with 16 assists for 38 points.
