Ragone Tabbed as ECAC West Conference Rookie of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. – After recording four points in an unbeaten week for the Manhattanville College men's hockey team, freshman defenseman Anthony Ragone (Babylon, N.Y./Springfield Pics (USPHL)) was named the ECAC West Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday night.

Ragone is the third Valiant already this season to earn weekly honors from the conference, joining junior Matt Coleman (Brentwood, N.Y./Springfield Pics (EJHL)) and last week's Rookie of the Week, freshman Stephen Gaul (Downers Grove, Ill./Springfield Pics (USPHL)).

The Babylon, N.Y., native led the Valiants with his four points in three games last week, scoring once and assisting on three goals as Manhattanville posted a 2-0-1 week.

Ragone started the week with an assist in the team's 4-3 win at Connecticut College, and then played a role in three of the squad's four tallies over the weekend. He scored his first collegiate goal to give the Valiants a lead and then assisted on the game-winning goal later in the second period on Friday night in a 3-2 win over SUNY Canton, and followed that up by recording the primary assist on the game-tying goal in Saturday's 1-1 (OT) tie with Nichols.

On the season, Ragone is Manhattanville's leading scorer on the blue line with a goal and four assists for five points.

In addition, junior Kurt Williams (Rocky Mountain House, Alta./Salmon Arm Silverbacks (BCHL)) was named to the weekly honor roll after making the most of the first two starts of his collegiate career, combining to stop 52-of-55 shots (.945 save percentage) to lead the Valiants to a win and a tie. The junior stopped 20 shots to earn a win in his collegiate debut on Friday versus Canton, and then made 32 saves in a 1-1 tie with Nichols on Saturday.

Manhattanville will take the remainder of 2014 off before beginning the 2015 portion of its schedule on January 4 with a rare Sunday night matchup against Curry at Playland Ice Casino, with the opening faceoff slated for 7 p.m.
