PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College Athletics family mourns the loss of junior Robby
iSchartner, a member of the Manhattanville men's lacrosse team, who passed away on Sunday.
Robby was entering his third season with the Valiant men's lacrosse program this year. Last season, he appeared in 10 games and started the final eight contests of the year as an attacker, scoring the first three goals of his collegiate career and adding an assist for four points.
Manhattanville President Michael Geisler, Ph.D. wrote the following in an email to Manhattanville students, faculty and staff this afternoon:
"In his three years as a men's lacrosse player Robert earned his spot on the team the hard way. It was not easy for him, but the sacrifices he made inspired the team and epitomized what it means to be a scholar-athlete at Manhattanville. The level of Robert's commitment to his team could never come into question; whatever he was asked to do, he did with a smile on his face. That was his understanding of what it means to be a true teammate. He loved the sport of lacrosse, he loved his teammates and he loved being a Manhattanville lacrosse player. … We are all in shock and we extend our prayers and condolences to his family members and friends."
Staff from the Counseling Center will be available throughout the evening and all week for members of the Manhattanville community.
The wake for Robby will be held on Tuesday, October 11 from 4-8 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home (1036 Boston Post Road, Rye, NY).
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection (910 Boston Post Road, Rye, NY).
