The MASCAC Individual Championships concluded this afternoon at the Hempfield Sports Complex in Landisville, Pa.  

Tournament Results

In the first singles final, Courtney McClurkin of DeSales defeated Alison McDonald 6-2, 6-1.  McClurkin defeated Sarah Grodzinski of Lebanon Valley in the semifinals, and McDonald defeated Kristin Hunter of King’s in the other semifinal matchup.

Xiaoqiao Zhang of Wilkes won the second singles crown after defeating Emma Smith of Elizabethtown in the finals and Liz Guidon of DeSales in the semifinals.  Smith earned her way to the finals after defeating Leslie Sabas of Lebanon Valley in the semifinals.

Alice Yu won third singles after defeating Kristin Wilt of Wilkes in the semifinals and DeSales’ Kate Steiner in the finals 6-2, 6-0.  Steiner defeated Jillian Tallarico of King’s in the other semifinal matchup. 

In the most intense match of the tournament, Victoria Bybel of Wilkes defeated Charissa Nordall of Lebanon Valley 6-1, 6-7(2-7), 10-7 in the semifinals of fourth singles to reach the finals.  There, she lost to number one seeded Jess Smith of DeSales, who defeated Amanda Marchica in the semifinals. 

Shayna Heintzelman defeated Michelle Knight 3-6, 7-5, 10-3 in the finals of fifth singles.  Both players were well rested, after winning their semifinal match Saturday.

Top seeded Katie Buckley of Wilkes won the sixth singles title after defeating Kristin Paula of Arcadia in the semifinals and Laura Wagner of Messiah in the finals.  Wagner defeated Nickie Brackbill in the semifinals to earn a shot at the title.

On the doubles side, Xiaoqiao Zhang and Alison McDonald of Wilkes defeated Sarah Guza and Kristin Hunter of King’s in the first singles final. 

Kristin Wilt and Victoria Bybel of Wilkes defeated Jessica Russell and Emily Swarr of Elizabethtown in a tightly contested second doubles final, 9-8 (9-7).

In third doubles, Kelly Moll and Charissa Nordall of Lebanon Valley defeated Mary Kate Boylan and Kate Steiner of DeSales, 8-3.
