ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Freedom Conference announced their weekly awards with Manhattanville junior catcher
Johnny LoVetere (Southbury, Conn./Canterbury) being named Player of the Week.
LoVetere started off the season with a 4-for-4 game and reached base all five times he came up to bat in the season opener against Alma College on Thursday afternoon. In the game he also drove in four runs and scored two himself in the 14-9 slugfest with the Scots.
He followed up his opening performance with two more solid games that saw him go 5-of-8 in the Valiants' two other wins against Manchester (Ind.) on Friday and Johnson & Wales on Sunday. He finished spring break with a .750 batting average with six RBI and five runs scored.
With his strong start, LoVetere has upped his career batting average to .293 in 133 career at-bats. He has 25 RBIs and 15 runs scored in just over two seasons at Manhattanville.
LoVetere and the rest of the Valiant baseball team will next take the field on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to nearby Pleasantville, N.Y. for a matchup against Division II Pace with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
