Men's Golf FAQs

What GPA/SAT do I need to be considered for admission into Manhattanville?

Although there is no minimum requirement, we look for athletes with a GPA of at least 2.8 or higher. The SAT is optional and not a requirement for admission. We pride ourselves in our players being “students” first as demonstrated by our team being named GCAA Div. III Academic National Champions in 2012.

What golf scores do I need to be considered as a candidate for the Manhattanville Golf Team?

We are looking for golfers who can average 78 or better on a regular basis, in a competitive setting. Tournament experience is a definite prerequisite for being considered for the team. More than talent, though, we are looking for golfers who are willing to work hard and stay disciplined on and off the course. We look for golfers who play in competitive events throughout the summer. Some of the tours we look at are the IGJT, AJGA, CSGA, MGA, WGA, FCWT tours, as well as the state golf associations around the United States and internationally.

How does the Manhattanville Golf Team establish and maintain contact with potential candidates?

We will reach out to potential candidates through email or telephone, and once contact has been established with a candidate we like to check in regularly via email, phone calls, or texts. Several times throughout the year we will have prospective students reach out to us as well. Contact will be made in a timely fashion, and we encourage each prospective student to get in touch with us at any time with any questions or concerns.

What can I do to have the Manhattanville coaches come to see me play?

We are more than happy and willing to make trips to come out and watch tournaments, we would simply need advance notice as to where and when the tournament is. The closer the tournament is to the New York area the more likely it is that we will be able to come out and watch; however, we will not just recruit from the tri-state area in which we are located. We encourage potential candidates to play in events with quality fields and strong competition in order to enhance your resume for any school, and to make yourself more tournament-tested.

How long is the Manhattanville golf season?

The fall tournament season runs from the beginning of September to the middle/end of October.

The spring tournament season runs from the beginning of April to the end of the school year in May. The NCAA Div. III Tournament takes place after school is out of session in May.

We typically play 5-6 events in both the fall and the spring seasons, and that is not including our conference tournament and NCAAs.

What is the practice schedule like?

We practice 4 days a week on tournament weeks, Monday-Thursday, with Fridays being reserved for practice rounds. Practices will be worked around class schedules as best as possible, with multiple practice sessions on some days in order to accommodate everyone’s schedules and to enhance playing abilities.

Where does the Manhattanville Golf team practice?

We have access to Doral Arrowwood Golf Club, which is a 3-minute drive from campus, for unlimited practice and play. This is our main practice facility and our players have basically unlimited access to the facility. Additionally, we practice on some of the best country clubs around, all located within 10 miles from the campus. The link to the courses we use is here:

With what other schools do you compete against during the season?

During our tournament season we compete with many NESCAC schools throughout the Northeast such as Middlebury, Williams, Hamilton, and Trinity, as well as Division I colleges and universities in the New York area. Also, we compete regularly in the NCAA Tournament, which exposes the team to some of the best nationally ranked Division III teams in the country.

What are some of the team’s tournament results from the past few years?

At the end of the Fall 2011 semester, the Valiants achieved the first national ranking in program history by earning the 25th spot in the final Golf World/Nike Golf Div. III College Coaches Poll of the calendar year. This came after the best semester of play in program history, in which the Valiants took first place at both the 16-team Hamilton Fall Invitational and the highly competitive six-team Manhattanville/NYU Fall Invitational, which the Valiants hosted at the beautiful and challenging Hudson National Golf Club, as well as finishing runner up three times.

At the end of that year, we earned our third straight berth in the NCAA Div. III Championships after winning a third consecutive Freedom Conference championship.

We are in the process of rebuilding the team into the national contender it was two years ago and are excited with the incoming class of kids we have brought in for the 2013-14 season.
