Dr. Lawson Bowling serves as Manhattanville's Faculty Athletics Representative to the NCAA and is a long-time staple at the College, having taught history at Manhattanville since 1984.

A graduate of Emory University with a bachelor's degree in history and English, the Philadelphia native returned to his hometown to earn a Master of Science degree in education at the University of Pennsylvania and later earned a Ph.D. in American history at Columbia University.

In addition to serving as director of the College's sport studies program, Bowling teaches courses on the 20th century, America, Italy, economic/business history, California, World War II, and the history of sports. He is a member of the American Historical Association, the Organization of American Historians, the New-York Historical Society, the California Historical Society, the North American Society for Sport History, the Society for Military History, and the Penn Club of New York.

Bowling was given the Valiant Plaque in 2000 in recognition of his outstanding service to the Department of Athletics and has been a longstanding supporter of Manhattanville student-athletes on and off the fields of play. He also serves as a member of the Manhattanville Athletics Hall of Fame Committee and is a mainstay at Valiant athletic events throughout the year.
