Amanda Alayon finished her ninth season as head coach of the Manhattanville women's volleyball program in 2019. In nine years with the Valiants, Alayon is the program's all-time leader in wins and has reached double figures in wins eight times, something that no previous coach had done more than three times in school history.

The 2019 season was one of the most successful in program history for Alayon and the Valiants. She was named Skyline Coach of the Year as she helped guide her squad to its first-ever conference title in the NCAA Division III era, posting a 24-6 overall record, including an 11-0 mark in Skyline play. Alayon guided the Valiants to regular-season and postseason titles in the Skyline to earn the program's first-ever trip to NCAAs. Alayon also helped guide two spectacular seasons from Skyline Player of the Year and first team all-conference selection Austen Brauer and freshman Vianca Vital, who also garnered first team honors. The pair set the program's single-season records in kills (Brauer-403) and assists (Vital-934). Each also earned All-ECAC second team.

Manhattanville had another successful campaign in 2017, integrating seven freshmen into the mix and keeping the Valiants in the running for a MAC Freedom Tournament berth until the final match of the year. One of those freshmen, Monica Lopez, ranked third in Division III by averaging 6.60 digs per set on the way to All-MAC Freedom first-team honors, while senior Kerry Mackey became the school's all-time kills leader and finished with 1,000 kills for her career.

Under Alayon's watch, Manhattanville finally broke through with its first-ever MAC Freedom Tournament appearance in 2016, reaching the semifinals thanks to a 4-3 mark in conference play. The Valiants also reached the quarterfinals of the ECAC Div. III Championships for the second year in a row and swept both matches at the annual MAC Crossover event for the first time, in addition to finishing the season with a perfect 9-0 record at Kennedy Gym. After the season, Mackey was named Manhattanville's first-ever All-MAC Freedom first-team selection and was one of three All-Conference picks, the most for the program in a season since 2000.

In 2013, Alayon guided the team to an overall record of 17-15, the program's first winning season since 2001 and the most wins by a Valiant side since 2000. As a team, the Valiants finished the year 13th in Division III with 2.89 aces per set, while also setting new program single-season records for kills (1,088) and assists (973) in a season.

Alayon was the youngest head coach in Division III when she was hired just weeks before the start of the 2011 season and began her career by guiding the Valiants to the best start to a year in program history with five straight wins. Manhattanville finished the year with a 15-15 record, the most wins in a single season and the program's first .500 season in 10 years, and also earned its first conference victory since 2008 with a 3-1 win over King's (Pa.).

Alayon was a two-year starter as a defensive specialist for Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University, starting all 64 matches over her final two years. After a breakout junior season in which she posted 228 digs and ranked second on the team in assists, she had her best year as a senior, when she ranked fourth on the squad with a career-high 252 digs and 24 service aces and also ranked third on the team in assists.

In four years with the Knights from 2007-10, she recorded 507 career digs (1.75/set), 47 service aces and 47 assists. Off the court, the scholarship student-athlete was a four-year member of the Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll and was named a FDU Knights Scholar-Athlete in all four seasons.
