Ryder Bohlander completed his sixth season at the helm of of the Manhattanville College men's lacrosse team in 2020 and continues the task of rebuilding the Valiant program from the ground up. He has also served as the department's Compliance Coordinator since the beginning of the 2018-19 academic year.

Bohlander's rebuilding efforts bore fruit during the 2018 season, when the Valiants finished with an 8-9 mark and reached the MAC Freedom Tournament for the program's first conference tournament berth since 2004. The eight wins were tied for the most in a single season since 1992, while the team's 4-0 start to the year was the best for a Valiant side since 1991. Following the season, Andrew Murray ('18) and Gianni Ciffone ('20) were named to the All-MAC Freedom first team and Soya Goto ('19) earned second-team honors, with Murray's honor making him the program's first four-time All-MAC Freedom selection.

During his third season, the Valiants faced adversity head on the entire season, but still managed to finish the season with their best record since 2009 with a 6-8 final mark. Under his guidance, Murray was named MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Year and an IMLCA and ECAC All-Region selection, while Zach Hoffman ('17) and Sam Hahn ('19) were also named All-MAC Freedom at the completion of the season. Manhattanville had their best conference run in recent history, narrowly missing the conference tournament for the first time since joining the MAC in 2008.

Bohlander came to Purchase with a strong lacrosse pedigree, having spent four years with Division I powerhouse University of Maryland from 2008-11. He was a four-year letterwinner and two-year starter on defense for the Terps, amassing 58 ground balls and causing 30 turnovers in his final two seasons. He helped the squad to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure, including a berth in the NCAA Div. I Championship game as a senior.

He received the “Iron Terp” award as the strongest pound-for-pound athlete on the team as a junior, and after his senior season received the school’s Dick Edell “Big Man” award, which goes to the player who best embodies the positive and selfless qualities of the former coach. Off the field, Bohlander was a five-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and a 2010-11 ACC Honor Roll recipient.

Bohlander spent 2013 on the roster of the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse after originally signing with the MLL’s New York Lizards.

A native of Katonah, N.Y., Bohlander graduated from Maryland in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiological sciences and is currently pursuing his Master's Degree at Manhattanville in Sports Business Management.
