MADISON, N.J. –
FDU-Florham senior Lora Fink netted the only goal of the game from the penalty spot 4:31 into the first overtime period as the Devils outlasted the Manhattanville women's soccer team by a 1-0 (OT) score in a key Freedom Conference matchup on Tuesday night at Shields Field.

With the win, FDU-Florham (11-4-2, 4-0-1 Freedom) picks up a big three points to remain in second place in the conference standings, while Manhattanville (2-11-1, 2-2-1 Freedom) falls into a tie with Misericordia University for the fourth and final playoff spot with two Freedom matches still to play.

Despite holding a 20-5 edge in total shots, the Devils had a hard time solving the Manhattanville defense for most of the night, as the home team put just seven shots on goal. The Valiants, meanwhile, put four attempts on the FDU net, but could not find the back of the net for the full 94:31 of play.

After going the entire match without scoring, the match was finally decided by the referee's whistle in the 95th minute, when Fink was fouled inside the 18-yard box and awarded a free kick from the penalty spot. The senior did not waste her opportunity, netting her 10th goal of the season to end the contest.

Senior goalie Ali Bromson (Suffield, Conn.) kept Manhattanville in the match by turning aside all six shots she faced in regulation, but could not come up with a miracle on the penalty kick and suffered the defeat. For FDU-Florham, Melanie Pierson made four saves to pick up the win.

Manhattanville will face another important Freedom Conference contest on Saturday, as the team stays on the road to take on the squad immediately above it in the standings, Wilkes University, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., starting at 3:30 p.m. FDU-Florham will travel to Misericordia on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
