EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – TJ Brandt scored the lone goal for Wilkes University as the Colonels defeated Manhattanville, 1-0, in an important Freedom Conference men's soccer contest on Saturday afternoon at Ralston Athletic Complex.

The Manhattanville offense could not solve Wilkes all game long, despite finding a way to outshoot the Colonels 24-3 and reaching the cage 13 times. Neither team scored in the first half, as the Valiants had possession for a majority of the half and allowed just one shot against but could not score.

Wilkes used a direct kick to score the lone goal of the contest in the 59th minute, as Joe Brennan found Brandt to give the hosts the 1-0 lead.  For Brandt the goal was his fourth of the season.

In goal, Kaleb Smith held Wilkes together and made 13 saves for his fourth victory of the season, while senior Jason Torres (Harrison, N.Y.) made two saves and was dealt his sixth defeat of the year.

Manhattanville (8-6-1, 2-3-1 Freedom) has two remaining home games this week, beginning with the Valiants hosting Berkeley College (N.Y.) on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Wilkes (5-12, 2-4 Freedom) will host Lycoming on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
