HARTFORD, Conn.
– Trinity (Conn.) College junior Leigh Howard scored two goals less than three minutes apart in the second half to provide the only scoring of the day and lead the Bantams past visiting Manhattanville, 2-0, in a non-conference women's soccer matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Campus Field.

In a match with 14 combined shots on goal, the only two balls to find the back of the net came 2:46 apart midway through the second half. Howard opened the scoring at the 55:38 mark, as her attempt from 25 yards away beat Manhattanville senior Ali Bromson (Suffield, Conn.). The junior struck again 166 seconds later, as she got a head on a cross from freshman Katelyn Burke and found the corner of the net.

Manhattanville more than held its own with Trinity with the exception of those three minutes, but unfortunately a pair of lapses resulted in two scores that gave the Bantams a victory and kept the Valiants winless.

The home team posted a 10-4 four edge in shots on goal on the afternoon, as Bromson turned aside eight Trinity tries to keep the Valiants close. Sophomore Lily Pepper and senior Emily Weedon combined for the shutout on the other side, as Pepper made three saves in the first half and Weedon stopped one in the second to earn the victory.

Senior Holly Nonis (Brampton, Ontario) led the Valiants with four overall shots, as the Valiants faced a 15-7 shot deficit on the day.

The tough contests continue for Manhattanville (0-6-0) on Saturday, as the Valiants travel north to Skidmore College to take on the Thoroughbreds on Saturday at 1 p.m. Trinity (1-0-1) also will return to action on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Middlebury College.
