PURCHASE, N.Y. – Sophomores Erick and Eros Olazabal (Milton, Ontario/Bishop Reding) finished with a combined three goals as the Manhattanville men's soccer team scored four goals in the first half to defeat non-conference opponent Hunter College, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com field.
The one-sided affair saw the host Valiants out shoot the Hawks, 20-0 over the 90-minute contest. The Manhattanville midfield held the Hawks out of the defensive zone for a majority of the contest, leading to 14 shots on target for the team in white. Erick Olazabal (Milton, Ontario) got his team on the board in the 13th minute as junior Keston George (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) send a one-timed pass inside the box to give the Valiants a 1-0 edge.
In the 32nd minute, Olazabal once again scored to give the team a 2-0 lead. Brother Eros Olazabal (Milton, Ontario) gave the Valiants a three-goal edge 24 seconds later as a turnover by the Hawks led to a tap-in goal. Junior defender Emil Sjoberg (Stockholm, Sweden) fed Olazabal with a pass in front of the net for his second goal of the season.
Before the end of the half, George sent a blast to the top-right corner of the net to take the 4-0 lead with 13 seconds remaining.
In a tale of two sides, Hunter goalie Zade Haobsh made 10 saves on 14 shots, while senior Jason Torres (Harrison, N.Y.) was not asked to make a save and picked up his second shutout of the season and third victory of the year.
Manhattanville (3-2, 0-0 Freedom) will return to GoValiants.com Field on Wednesday evening as they take on Stevens Tech beginning at 7 p.m. The contest will be streamed live on GoValiants.TV and will have live stats on GoValiants.com beginning at 6:55 p.m. Hunter (2-3-2, 0-0-1 CUNYAC) also be in action on Wednesday as they host CUNYAC foe City College of New York at 5 p.m.
