Regionally-ranked Skidmore College used an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal and scores from three different players to defeat the Manhattanville women's soccer team by a 3-0 score in non-conference play on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.

The overall shot total was not as unequal, as Skidmore took 15 shots to Manhattanville's seven, but the Valiants had trouble getting quality chances on net against the Thoroughbred defensive unit. Skidmore also took six corners to the Valiants' three over the course of the afternoon.

The only saving grace for Manhattanville once again was the play of senior netminder Ali Bromson (Suffield, Conn.), who turned aside eight chances – including multiple sprawling saves from in close. Skidmore junior Meghan Sleezer made one save in the first half to earn the win, while freshman Gab Lawrence made one save as well in the second half of play.

After several failed attempts to beat Manhattanville's offsides trap, Skidmore found a golden opportunity in the 17th minute, when freshman Christine Bellotti took a through ball and went in all alone on the Valiant goal from about 30 yards out. After a few dribbles, Bromson charged from her net and smothered a high shot attempt to keep the match scoreless.

The Thoroughbreds continued with the through balls, however, and turned one into a score at the 25:45 mark. After a long pass forward into space, Bromson came to the top of the box to meet Bellotti, but her clearance deflected off the forward and behind Bromson. With nobody nearby, Bellotti was first to the ball and deposited it into the open net for the goal.

Bromson continued to keep Manhattanville in the match, making a sterling point-blank save off a volley from junior Lauren Madden in the 30th minute, but Skidmore came back with a second score 46 seconds later as Madden booted home a cross from sophomore Kelsey Yam at the back post to double the home team's lead.

The Thoroughbreds added another tally after the half, as junior Abby Benton headed home a cross from sophomore Michelle Finan in the 73rd minute.

Manhattanville (0-7-0) will return home to GoValiants.com Field on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match that will be broadcast live online at GoValiants.TV. Skidmore (3-1-1) gets right back in action tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at Middlebury College.
