Valiant Volleyball Downed by Wilkes in Three Sets

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.
– Wilkes University recorded only six errors and posted a .323 hitting percentage as a team in posting a 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-14) victory over the visiting Manhattanville Valiants in a Freedom Conference women's volleyball match on Monday evening at the Marts Center.

 

Junior Makana Gomes (Honolulu, Hawaii) had a team-leading eight kills and seven assists for Manhattanville offensively, while juniors Damaris Morales (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic) and Ally Johnson (Branford, Conn.) tied for the team lead with 11 digs apiece. Freshman Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) also added a match-high four blocks (two solo, two assist) for the visitors as well.

 

Wilkes senior Marissa Harrison led all players with 11 kills, while classmate Allie Kelleher added a match-best 16 digs for the Colonels.

 

Manhattanville did not play poorly in the match, committing just 10 errors on 108 total attacks and making no more than four errors in any set. However, Wilkes as a team made just six total attack errors on the night, including a perfect 12-kill, no-error effort in the first set.

 

Manhattanville (5-5, 0-2 Freedom) will take a well-deserved nine-day rest before the team's next contest, which comes at home against Freedom Conference foe Delaware Valley College on Wednesday, September 29 at 7 p.m. Fans that can't make it to Purchase can watch the action live on GoValiants.TV. Wilkes (7-7, 2-0 Freedom) will take on Stevenson University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
