Hutchinson Leads #10 Women's Hockey to Victory at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn.
 Freshman Haleigh Hutchinson (Allen Park, Mich./Honeybaked (TOEHL)) contributed on all three goals, as the #10 Manhattanville women's hockey team defeated Connecticut College, 3-1, in a non-conference match at Dayton Arena on Tuesday evening.

 

Hutchinson finished the contest with two goals and an assist as the Valiants broke a 1-1 tie in the third period with an early game-winning goal and a late empty net goal. Sophomore Katie Little (Victoria, British Columbia/Team British Columbia) was credited with the game-winning goal early in the final period. Senior Holly Nonis (Brampton, Ontario/Saint Thomas Aquinas), sophomore Sonia Occhionero (Montreal, Quebec/Kent School (Conn.)) and Hutchinson were credited with assists on the three goals.

 

The Valiants took the 1-0 lead at the 5:51 mark of the first period as Nonis sent a pass to Hutchinson for her sixth of the season. Connecticut College tied the contest late in the second period as Oliva Farrell found Caroline Corbett for her fifth tally of the season with 5:11 remaining.

 

The Valiants took the contest in the final stanza, as passes from Hutchinson and Occhionero found Little for her 10th goal of the season at the 5:56 mark. With under a minute remaining in the contest, Hutchinson hit the empty net for second goal of the night and her seventh on the year.

 

The Valiants outshot the Camels, 36-30, in the contest and neither team scored on five man-advantages.  Sophomore netminder Emy Cote (Saint-Hubert, Quebec/Dawson College) made 29 saves for her seventh victory of the season, while Amy Leichliter made 33 saves in the loss.

 

Manhattanville (12-4-1 , 9-1 ECAC East) will remain on the road for a pair of ECAC East games this weekend beginning with a late afternoon contest on Friday at Saint Anselm and then at UMass Boston on Saturday at 2 p.m.
