BOSTON, MASS. – The 10th-ranked Valiant women's hockey team had a hard time bouncing back from yesterday's defeat and fell for the second straight game, 3-1, at UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon in an ECAC East Conference matchup at the Clark Athletic Center.
After a scoreless first period, the Beacons got two in the middle frame from Kristen Smith and Katie Kirwan to take a two-goal lead into the third period. Senior assistant captain Jess Scioli (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) scored at the 4:47 mark of the third to make it a 2-1 deficit with her second goal of the season from senior captain Shannon Coffey (Malden, Mass./North American Hockey Academy), but the Beacons added a late insurance goal to seal the victory over the Valiants.
Manhattanville doubled up UMass Boston in the shots category, 48-24, but Beacons' netminder Leah Hallett made an incredible 47 saves for the victory. Freshman Mary Evans (Ferndale, Mich./Honeybaked (TOEHL)) made 21 saves for the Valiants in the loss.
Manhattanville (12-6-1, 9-3-0 ECAC East) will remain on the road for a pair of games at New England College next Friday and then at Castleton State on Saturday.
