Women's Soccer Struggles in Loss to Eastern

Box Score Boxscore

PURCHASE, N.Y. –
The Manhattanville women's soccer team had another rough day on Saturday afternoon as the Valiants fell to the Eastern Eagles 7-0 at GoValiants.com Field. Manhattanville was able to beat the Eagles in penalty kicks to advance to the Freedom Championship game last season, but today was a different story.

Kelsey Doutrich had a great game for the visitors, scoring three times and also adding an assist for seven points. Charlotte Laurie and Amy Thomas both had a pair of goals as well for Eastern.

The Eagles did not take long to start the scoring as Doutrich shot the ball into the net from the corner just over a minute into the game to give Eastern the 1-0 advantage. Her productive first half would continue as she fed the ball to Laurie, who tipped the ball in for her ninth goal of the season to make it 2-0 Eagles. Doutrich then struck again at the 14:22 mark of the first half as she tallied her second goal of the game off of an assist from Tess Beckwith to put the Valiants in a 3-0 hole.

Thomas added her first of the game at the 33:40 mark of the opening half to give the visitors a 4-0 leaded headed into halftime.

Things did not get better for the Valiants during the second half as Doutrich completed the hat trick by scoring her third goal of the game to extend Eastern's lead to 5-0 at 9:19 into the second half. It was her 12th goal of the year.

Laurie and Thomas added their respective second goals later in the half, with Thomas' second coming with just over 13 minutes left to play to account for the final score.

The Valiants were outshot 29-6 overall and Eastern had 11 corner kick opportunities while Manhattanville executed two corner on the afternoon. Junior Brianna Scapperotti (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) stopped 13 shots for the Valiants while her counterpart, Eastern's Alysia Goodman, had three saves.

Manhattanville (2-15-0, 1-5-0 Freedom) is back in action on Wednesday, when they host Eastern Connecticut State in non-conference action and honor the team's two seniors on Senior Night at GoValiants.com Field beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern (9-5-2, 5-1-0 Freedom) travels to Salisbury for a non-conference match on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
