WILKES-BARRE, Pa. –
Samantha Beadle of King's (Pa.) College fired a direct kick off a Manhattanville defender and into the back of the net 7:32 into the first overtime period as the Monarchs defeated the Valiants in Freedom Conference play, 2-1 (OT), in the 2011 season finale for both teams on Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

The unlucky bounce was the end of a frustrating day for Manhattanville, as both King's goals came off deflections.

After the two teams remained knotted up at one after 90 minutes of play, King's took the only two shots of the overtime frame, as junior Brianna Scapperotti (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) turned aside the first chance from Brianna Schmidt but could not stop Beadle's lucky bounce just under three minutes later.

For the match, the Lady Monarchs posted a 13-8 edge in total shots, with both Scapperotti and King's keeper Lauren Duguis making three saves apiece.

Both teams had their opportunities in the opening half, but Manhattanville was much more accurate in its shooting attempts, and that eventually resulted in the only score of the frame. At the end of the 42nd minute, junior Morgan Rebollal (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) fired a shot that caromed off the right post, then across the goal mouth and off the left post before tricking over the goal line for the score, her team-leading fourth of the year.

In the opening half, Manhattanville had a 6-5 edge in shots, but the Valiants made much more of their chances. Four of the Valiants' six first-half attempts were on target, including Rebollal's score, while the Lady Monarchs had five shots but all of them went wide of the net.

King's finally put a shot on goal 12 minutes into the second half of play and received a fortuitous bounce in the process, as Katie Mangan put a shot off a Valiant defender and into the back of the net to tie the score at one.

For the visitors, the offensive chances dried up in the second half, as the squad managed only two off-target shots from Rebollal in the first six minutes and nothing after that, as King's scored once in regulation and once again in overtime to pull out the victory.

Manhattanville finishes the 2011 season with an overall record of 2-17, including a 1-6 mark in the Freedom Conference. King's (Pa.) concludes its year 4-15 overall and 1-6 in Freedom Conference play.
