PURCHASE, N.Y.
– The Manhattanville men's soccer team welcomed the Swarthmore Garnet, ranked 21st in the NSCAA Div. III National Poll and 11th according to D3Soccer.com, to GoValiants.com Field on Wednesday evening and fell to their guests by a score of 1-0 after a second-half tally put the visitors ahead.

The two sides were able to muster several opportunities in the match, with the Garnet outshooting the Valiants by an eight to six margin through the first 45 minutes of play. Manhattanville graduate goalkeeper Jason Torres (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) made six saves to the two saves of Swarthmore's netminder David D'Annunzio in the first half.

After the break, Manhattanville freshman Yani Quinteros (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) had a great scoring opportunity that was stopped by a diving D'Annunzio 2:33 into the period.

The Garnet got their best opportunity at the 72:57 point of the game.  After the initial shot of Michael Stewart was stopped by Torres, the goalkeeper allowed Stewart to take the ball away and dribble it into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.

The Valiants got six more shots off after falling behind, but only one made it on goal as senior Emil Sjoberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Tyreso Gymnasium) took the final shot of the contest with six seconds remaining.
