GORHAM, Maine –
The Manhattanville women's ice hockey team skated to a 0-0 tie on Saturday afternoon as they took on the Southern Maine Huskies in the final game of the 2011 portion of their ECAC East Conference schedule.

The two sides played well defensively throughout all 65 minutes but the stars of the games were both netminders. For Manhattanville, junior co-captain Emy Cote (Saint-Hubert, Quebec/Dawson College) made 10 saves over the duration of the game while Liz Bergstrom of Southern Maine made 35 saves on the opposite end of the ice.

The Valiants had an opportunity to get on the board just 91 seconds into the game when Southern Maine was called for their first infraction of the afternoon but were unable to capitalize. Manhattanville ended the first period with an 8-1 shot differential.

After the first break the Valiants again were given power-play opportunities but failed to find the back of the goal. Manhattanville once again took eight shots in the period and allowed Southern Maine to get three shots off against Cote.

In the third the Valiant offense took over in peppering Bergstrom with 16 shots, but the netminder turned them all aside. Also in the period the Valiants failed to take advantage once again of their two power-play chances. With the scoreless tie after regulation, Manhattanville found their way to their first overtime game this season.

In the extra session the Valiants outshot their hosts by a 3-1 margin for a game total of 35-10. Manhattanville also took a penalty with 23 seconds remaining, but like the three penalty kills before it, the Valiant penalty kill unit handled the disadvantages easily.

Manhattanville (4-4-1, 3-2-1 ECAC East) will be back in action with a pair of difficult non-conference games next weekend that begins with a matchup at USCHO.com poll No. 3 Middlebury on Friday evening. The live action will be brought to you on 88.1 WMVL FM at 6:50 p.m.. Southern Maine (3-3-1, 3-2-1 ECAC East) returns to the ice next Saturday when they travel to Colby for a 7:00 p.m. start.
