CASTLETON, Vt. – The Manhattanville women's hockey team dominated play throughout and held a decisive 52-14 edge in shots on the way to picking up a 4-1 victory over host Castleton State College in an ECAC East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Spartans Arena.

The Valiants controlled play almost all game long against the Spartans, as the Valiants' three period shot totals – 18, 14 and 20 – matched or exceeded the 14 shots taken by Castleton in the whole 60 minutes. As a result, freshman Mary Evans (Ferndale, Mich./Honeybaked (TOEHL)) was not called upon often and made 13 saves for the visitors to pick up her sixth win of the year.

On the offensive side, four different Valiants found the back of the net, beginning with the team-leading 12th of the year from sophomore Mary Rose Morrison (Ridgefield, Conn./Connecticut Stars (MFYHL)). Freshman Mallory Watts (Bloomfield, Mich./Honeybaked (MWEHL)) scored the first goal of her career in the second period, while sophomore Lynsey Schill (Waterloo, Ontario/Kitchener Rangers (PWHL)) picked up her second and classmate Ella Hubley (Santa Monica, Calif./LA Selects) notched her fourth of the year as well for the visitors.

In the first period, Manhattanville posted an 18-4 edge in shots and yet scored just once, as Morrison took a feed from classmate Sonia Occhionero (Montreal, Quebec/Kent School (Conn.)) and beat Castleton keeper Katharyn Dembowski at the 8:52 mark.

The second period saw more of the same, as the Valiants scored twice in a span of 91 seconds to give the visitors a three-goal lead. At 9:30, Hubley teamed up with senior assistant captain Jess Scioli (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) for the sophomore's fourth goal of the year, which turned out to be the game-winning score. Soon after at 11:01, Watts scored the first goal of her career from Occhionero to put Manhattanville in firm command of the proceedings.

Castleton's Laura Szwed got the home team on the board late in the second period and it looked like the Spartans might be able to get back into the game thanks to nearly a full two minutes of five-on-three advantage midway through the third period. However, the Valiants killed off that challenge and Schill promptly put one in the back of the net from sophomore Katie Little (Victoria, British Columbia/Team British Columbia) and freshman Haleigh Hutchinson (Allen Park, Mich./Honeybaked (TOEHL)) at 14:40 to seal the victory.

Dembowski played well for Castleton in a losing effort, turning aside 48 shots.

After completing a five-game road trip, Manhattanville (13-6-2, 10-3-1 ECAC East) will return home to Playland Ice Casino for the final two home games of the regular season starting on Friday night at 7 p.m. against Salve Regina University. Fans can catch all the action live on GoValiants.TV starting at 6:50 p.m.
