PURCHASE, N.Y. –
Junior forward Eros Olazabal (Milton, Ontario/Bishop Reding) exploded for five goals and an assist to give head coach Gregg Miller his first Valiant victory as the Manhattanville men's soccer team marched past the York (N.Y.) Cardinals 7-0 in the 2011 opener. His 11 points set the school's new single-game record, passing Justin Sweeney who had 10 on September 19, 2001 against Purchase College; Eros tied Sweeney with his five goals, but his one extra assist gave him the new school record.

Eros' first marker came early on in the contest at the 5:42 point when he received a crossing pass from his twin brother Erick Olazabal (Milton, Ontario/Bishop Reding) to make the score 1-0. The game would stay the same score until 28:23 into the game, when Eros scored his second of the game.

Just over four minutes later Eros notched the natural hat trick when he scored on another cross from his brother Erick. The Valiants would go into the halftime break with a 3-0 lead and didn't let up in the second half as the rout was on.

After the break the offense picked up once again 5:27 into the frame as Eros scored his fourth consecutive goal, this time coming off the foot of senior Adam Kent (London, England/Sutton Grammar).  The fifth goal came from junior defender Marco Blasetti (Yonkers, N.Y./Rye Country Day), as Eros kept a just cross a cross inbounds at the goal line and fed back to Blasetti, who was on his back but still found a way to steer the ball home.

The sixth goal also didn't come from Eros, but it came from the other member of the Olazabal family on the team as Erick notched his first goal of the season coming off a pair of crisp passes from graduate student Chukwueloka Muoka (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Leadership Academy) and junior Zack Weidner (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) to set up an odd-man rush down the field.

Not to get outshined by his brother, Eros notched his fifth individual goal and the team's seventh goal of the contest to send the Cardinals home with nothing more than seven shots to the Valiants 26.  Manhattanville's defense anchored by Blasetti, Sjoberg, Weidner and newcomer Ezra Kauffman-Rogoff (Washington, D.C./Edmund Burke) held the opposing offense off the scorer's sheet.

In terms of corner kicks, the Valiants were in front as well taking five while yielding two to their opponents.

Starting in goal for the second time in his career at Manhattanville was sophomore Zach Benton (Houston, Texas/Cy-Springs), who made four saves earning his first win of the year.  Benton played the first 75:59 of the game before making way to junior Brad Deeb (Burkburnett, Texas/Burkburnett), who made his collegiate debut and completed the shutout.

Manhattanville (1-0) returns to action on Sunday against Commonwealth Conference member Alvernia.  York (0-1) travels to Merchant Marine on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
