PURCHASE, N.Y. –
Although Manhattanville showed great strides in the possession game and on the defensive side of the ball, the results still were not there offensively as the Valiants dropped a tough 2-0 non-conference women's soccer contest to Haverford on day two of the 2011 Valiant Classic Sunday at GoValiants.com Field.

Taking on a Fords squad that bested NSCAA #10 Eastern Connecticut State the day before, the Valiants came out strong to begin the contest and limited Haverford's offensive chances.

However, Haverford eventually struck first in the 27th minute, as some nice passing resulted in the first score of the game. After Katie Van Aken kept the ball in on the near end line, Connie Friedman sent a cross to the back post for a waiting Larisa Antonisse to tip into an empty net for the goal.

Van Aken was in the middle of the Fords' second score of the opening half as well, as she again possessed the ball along the endline and fed to the top of the six-yard box where Allie Chen was waiting to one-touch the ball into the netting.

Manhattanville did well to keep the Fords at bay during the second half, but the offensive unit did not click and the Valiants suffered the defeat.

For the game, Haverford posted a 19-1 edge in total shots and an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal. Valiant freshman keeper Bridget Miranda (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) turned aside nine shots in a losing effort, while Haverford keeper Robin Chernow did not face a shot on goal on the afternoon.

Manhattanville (0-5) will continue its four-match homestand on Wednesday night, when the Valiants host Trinity (Conn.) College under the lights of GoValiants.com Field beginning at 7 p.m., with the match broadcast live on GoValiants.TV beginning at 6:55 p.m. Haverford (3-0-1) returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Dickinson.
