Freedom Struggles for Volleyball Continue at Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. –
Manhattanville continued to struggle against Freedom Conference competition on Wednesday night, as the Valiants fell in straight sets to Delaware Valley, 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-17), in a conference matchup at James Work Gymnasium.

Destinee Horning led all players with 12 kills on 35 attacks, and also chipped in eight digs and three blocks as well. Alyssa Riggins and Gina Page both came close to double-doubles for the home team as well, as Riggins had nine kills and 10 digs while Page recorded nine kills and nine digs.

For Manhattanville, freshman Sam Delmer (Boise, Idaho/Eagle) led the way with 10 kills on 35 attempts. Senior Ally Johnson (Branford, Conn./Branford) had seven kills and also tied with sophomore Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) with a team-leading 10 digs as well for the visitors.

Manhattanville actually had more kills than its host during the first set (12-11) and held a 14-13 lead midway through the frame, but the Aggies rallied with 12 of the final 18 points to earn the all-important first set. The second set followed the same pattern, as the Valiants held a two-point edge at 10-8 but saw the home team rattle off eight straight points to take control of the set and jump out to a commanding 2-0 lead.

DVC then recorded 14 kills and just four errors in the final set as the Aggies ran out to a big lead and cruised to the match victory.

Manhattanville (8-6, 0-3 Freedom) will try its luck against teams from the other side of the Middle Atlantic Conference on Saturday, as the Valiants take on Lycoming and Arcadia as part of the Freedom/Commonwealth Crossover Tournament at 10 a.m. and noon, respectively. Delaware Valley (11-3, 2-1 Freedom) will take on Valley Forge Christian College tomorrow night starting at 7 p.m.
