WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Manhattanville women's soccer team dropped a second straight contest at Eastern Connecticut State University's Warrior Classic on Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants fell to Fitchburg State College by a 4-1 score on day two at the Mansfield Athletic Complex.
The Falcons had the better of play for much of the afternoon, posting a 22-4 edge in total shots and taking 11 corner kicks to Manhattanville's four. FSC also had some luck on its side as well, as the Falcons opened the scoring at the 10:58 mark thanks to an own goal by the Valiants.
Fitchburg State doubled its lead 26 minutes later, when Carissa Kennedy notched her second goal in as many days to give the squad a two-goal edge in the 37th minute.
Manhattanville cut the deficit in half early in the second stanza, as junior Morgan Rebollal (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) tallied her first of the year off a feed from classmate Sonia Occhionero (Montreal, Quebec/Kent School) at the 51:52 mark of the match. But with the Valiants pressing forward for an equalizer, the Falcons scored twice in the 71st and 78th minutes to put the game out of reach.
Freshman Bridget Miranda (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) was busy in goal for Manhattanville, making five saves in a losing effort. FSC keeper Jillain Kirouac made two saves in the first 84 minutes to pick up the victory.
Manhattanville (0-2) will complete its season-opening three-match road trip on Wednesday afternoon, as the Valiants travel to Farmingdale State for a 4 p.m. matchup with their former Skyline Conference foes. Fitchburg State (1-1) will host Anna Maria on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
