SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Manhattanville women's hockey team shutout ECAC East for Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon by the score of 4-0. The Valiants got goals from four different players and two-point performances out of both junior
Katie Little (Victoria, British Columbia/Team British Columbia) and freshman
Alla Traun (Edina, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds (JWHL)).
Manhattanville opened the period on a 12-1 shooting spree with the twelfth goal finding the back of the goal as sophomore Caitlyn Beauvais (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers (JWHL)) scored her first career goal on an assist by freshman Aubrey Bachand (Harwichport, Mass./Vermont Academy), her first assist of the season.
Less than five minutes later the Valiants scored again as junior Mary Rose Morrison (Ridgefield, Conn./Connecticut Stars (MFYHL)) put one past the Knights' netminder Erin Stevens, assists on the goal came from sophomore Mallory Watts (Bloomfield, Mich./Honeybaked (MWEHL)) and freshman Michelle Meggiolaro, for Meggiolaro it was her first career point.
At the end of the first period Manhattanville had outshot their hosts by a 13-2 margin, as freshman goalkeeper Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) turned away both shots that the Knights shot her way.
In the second period the Valiants kept their foot on the gas pedal and outshot Saint Michael's by an 18-2 differential as 10 different players tallied shots for the Valiants. One of the 10 shooters was junior Jessica Kehoe (Kemptville, Ontario/Nepean Wildcats (PWHL)) who scored her second of the season with assists coming from Little and Traun.
In the third period the Valiants tacked on a fourth goal as Little scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season with the assist being credited to Traun. Again Manhattanville dominated in terms of shots as they took 11 to Saint Michael's three.
Game totals for the shots on goal were well in favor of the Valiants as they took 42 to the Knights' seven, Manhattanville had eight shots from Traun who had five in the second period alone. Also amongst the leaders in shots were Little who had five while classmate Lauren Nutkevitch (Montreal, Quebec/Dawson College) also added five from her defensive position.
In goal, Shaughnessy stopped all seven shots sent her way as she earned her second career shutout in only her second career game. On the losing end was Stevens who made 38 saves in the losing effort while allowing the four Valiant markers.
On the power play Manhattanville went 2-for-4 with seven shots as both Kehoe and Little's goals came in the extra skater chances. While on the losing side Saint Michael's went 0-for-4 on their power play chances throughout the course of the game.
Manhattanville (8-7-2, 6-3-1 ECAC East) will hit the ice at home this coming Friday when they play host to Saint Anselm at 7:00 p.m. from the Playland Ice Casino in Rye, N.Y. as they look to avenge their 3-1 loss to the Hawks earlier this season on November 5. Saint Michael's (1-14-1, 0-11-1 ECAC East) will also be back in conference play on Friday when they host New England College on January 27 at 7:00 p.m.
