Four-Goal Blitz Gets Eastern Connecticut Past Manhattanville

Box Score MANSFIELD, Conn. – Eastern Connecticut State scored four times in less than six minutes early in the second half and didn't need any more offense the rest of the way as the Warriors defeated Manhattanville by a 4-0 score in a non-conference women's soccer match on Wednesday night at the Mansfield Complex.

Kelly Wallace led ECSU with two goals and an assist in the win, followed by Daniela Marchitto with a goal and an assist. Taylor Buchanan also scored once and Tamar Merheb chipped in with a pair of assists for the home team as well.

Playing the perennial Little East contender, Manhattanville played tough for most of the match and hung with Eastern Connecticut throughout the 90 minutes – except for a 5:31 span early in the second half in which the Warriors scored all four goals.

Wallace got the run started at the 51:25 mark off a pass from Marchitto, and then found the net again less than two minutes later to double the ECSU lead. After two minutes had elapsed, Marchitto and Buchanan scored 1:21 apart to complete the flourish and put the Valiants well behind.

Eastern Connecticut kept up the pressure after that, posting a 13-0 edge in shots over the final 45 minutes. For the match, Eastern posted a 20-1 edge in attempts, although the shots-on-goal margin was only 8-0.

Freshman Grace Kraemer (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made four saves in a losing effort for Manhattanville, while Mackenzie MacLeod did not need to make a save over the first 67:55 to pick up the win.

Manhattanville (6-10) will make one last attempt to pull off a Freedom Conference postseason berth on Saturday, as the Valiants will celebrate their seniors with Senior Day prior to a 1 p.m. meeting with NSCAA #15 Misericordia at GoValiants.com Field. The live GoValiants.TV broadcast will begin at 12:50 p.m.
