Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women's volleyball team wrapped up its 2012 Freedom Conference schedule on Wednesday evening, as the Valiants dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-18) decision to Misericordia at Kennedy Gymnasium.
Misericordia (17-12, 4-3 Freedom) wrapped up the third seed in next week's Freedom Conference Tournament with the win thanks to the play of Cailin McCullion and Kat LaBrie, who combined for 27 kills. McCullion had the match's only double-double with 15 kills, 12 digs and three aces, while LaBrie followed with 12 kills and three blocks. Shelby Brochetti added a match-high 19 digs and nine kills as well.
For Manhattanville, junior
Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) came close to a double-double of her own with nine kills and nine digs, followed by sophomore
Patricia Alfonso (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertoriqueno de Ninas) with four kills and 11 digs. The pair also ended the night with a combined 488 kills between them so far this year, making them the top tandem in a single season in program history, surpassing the combined 476 kills of Heidi Jerzembeck '91 and Jen Riordan '90 in 1989.
Sophomore
Alyssa Casino (Rye Brook, N.Y./Maria Regina) led the team defensively with 15 digs, and in the process moved past
Sam Delmer for second place on the school's single-season digs list with 491.
The Cougars hit the ball well on the night, posting a .175 hitting percentage with 44 kills and 22 errors on 126 attempts. The Valiants had a lot fewer chances at the net, posting 18 kills and 14 errors in 104 attacks.
Manhattanville (9-22, 1-6 Freedom) will close out the 2012 season on Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants welcome SUNY Maritime to Kennedy Gym beginning at 1 p.m.
