Trenah Stauffer (Salmon, Idaho/Colorado Select (JWHL)) scored the lone goal for Manhattanville in the third period.
The penalty bug bit the Valiants in the first period, as five different Manhattanville skaters were sent to the penalty box on separate occasions in the first period. In a 5-on-3 situation the Soaring Eagles capitalized and took a 1-0 lead on a Brooke Wilgosh got Elmira on the board.
The second period started off with a skater from both Elmira and Manhattanville in the penalty box, and it wasn't much later that the Soaring Eagles put in their second goal. Just 18 seconds into the second period, Elmira opened up a 2-0 lead as Tanis Lamoureux netted her first of the season.
Manhattanville's penalties continued to be a burden later in the period, as they took and later killed off their seventh penalty through the first two periods. For the Valiants they were able to hold off the power play unit of Elmira and sent the game to the third period down only two.
In the third, Manhattanville came out with some gusto as seniors
Mary Rose Morrison (Ridgefield, Conn./Connecticut Stars (MFYHL)) and
Sonia Occhionero (Montreal, Quebec/Kent School (Conn.)) opened up with a pair of shots for the Valiants. The next shot came off the stick of Stauffer, who netted her first career goal at the 3:16 mark of the third period. Sophomore Michelle Meggiolaro and senior
Katie Little (Victoria, British Columbia/Team British Columbia) added assists on the tally.

The Valiants had another chance for some last-minute magic just as they had a day prior against Plattsburgh. With Elmira taking a penalty, and Manhattanville pulling the goal for a 6-on-4 skater advantage, the Soaring Eagles took another penalty and gave the Valiants a 6-on-3 edge but were unable to get any shots through to goalie Lisa Marshall as Elmira hung on for the win.
Evans took the loss for Manhattanville to fall to 0-2-0 on the year, with another solid performance in goal as she registered 33 saves. Marshall made 16 saves for Elmira to earn the victory to move to 1-0-0 on the season.
After the conclusion of the four-game tournament, Little was named to the All-Tournament team as the lone Manhattanville representative. She was joined by Jenny Kistner and Teal Gove of Plattsburgh, Olyvia Nystrom of Elmira, Marie-Philip Guay and Loren Carrier of Norwich. The tournament Most Valuable Player was goalkeeper Sydney Aveson of Plattsburgh, who earned a win and a tie against Norwich and Manhattanville.
