Box Score Boxscore

RYE, N.Y. –
The second-seeded Manhattanville women's ice hockey team disposed of the seventh-seeded UMass Boston Beacons on Saturday afternoon by the score of 2-0 on goals by junior Katie Little (Victoria, British Columbia/Team British Columbia) and freshman Alla Traun (Edina, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds (JWHL)). With the win, Manhattanville advances to the ECAC East Tournament semifinals and will take on New England College next weekend.

Both sides started off slow trying to keep one another off the board, and both were successful in doing so as the game was scoreless heading into the first intermission. Manhattanville outshot the Beacons by a 13-5 margin in the first, with the Valiants going 0-for-1 on the power play and the Beacons unable to convert on their two chances.

In the second period the Valiants were able to break through as junior Katie Little (Victoria, British Columbia/Team British Columbia) netted her team-leading 14th goal of the season on the power play. Linemates and classmates Alyssa Taylor (Craik, Saskatchewan/Sait Polytechnic (ACAC)) and Lynsey Schill (Waterloo, Ontario/Kitchener Rangers (PWHL)) picked up the assists on the goal at 10:14 into the second stanza.

Just over a minute later, UMass Boston took another penalty and gave the Valiants a chance to tack on more, but Beacons goalie Leah Hallett was up to the task, stopping the three shots sent on goal during the penalty kill. The period ended with Manhattanville outshooting UMass Boston once again, this time by an 11-7 differential

At the start of the third period, the Valiants outshot the Beacons 5-1 to help keep the visitors off the scoreboard. With time winding down in the third period, UMass Boston took a timeout with 1:50 to go in regulation and pulled Hallet after the puck was dropped once again.

In the ensuing series of play, Traun took the puck away from the Beacons at neutral ice and sent the puck sailing towards the goal at the blueline to finish off the scoring and give Manhattanville the 2-0 lead. After taking the lead, Hallett returned to the crease and quickly came off again, but the Beacons were unable to get any shots off with the extra skater as time expired.

The Valiants finished the period outshooting their guests 12-3 to finish off the game with a 36-15 edge in shots. In goal for Manhattanville, junior Emy Cote (Saint-Hubert, Quebec/Dawson College) had a fairly quiet day, stopping all 15 shots sent her way to improve to 8-7-2 on the year. Taking the loss was Hallett, who made 34 saves to fall to4-14-2.

Manhattanville (14-8-4, 11-4-3 ECAC East) moves on to take on third-seeded New England College next Saturday at noon in the ECAC East semifinals as they travel to Northfield, Vermont for the third time this season to play a neutral site game at the home of the top-seeded Norwich Cadets. New England played deep into a second 20-minute overtime period before knocking off sixth-seeded Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon.

In the other semifinal matchup Norwich will take on fifth-seeded Castleton State, who needed overtime to beat Salve Regina on Saturday, beginning at 3 p.m. The two winners will meet in the ECAC East championship game on Sunday afternoon.
