ANNVILLE, Pa. – Following a sixth-place finish at the Manhattanville/NYU Spring Invitational over the weekend, junior
Nick Sica (Staten Island, N.Y./Avon Old Farms) of the Valiant men's golf team earned his first career Freedom Conference Golfer of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
The junior was the top scorer for Manhattanville, carding rounds of 72 and 81 to finish in a tie for sixth at the 76-player event, which was held on Saturday and Sunday at Hampshire Country Club. Sica finished the first day of competition atop the 76-player leaderboard, as he registered a career-low round of 72 to sit at one-over par, before settling into sixth place with a Sunday 81. Over the weekend, Sica tied for sixth in the field with five birdies and also excelled on the long holes, as he was the second-best player on the par fives by posting a -3 cumulative score.
Sica has been having a solid first season with Manhattanville this year, as he currently ranks second on the team by averaging 77.1 strokes per round. The junior has posted two top-fives, five top-10s and six top-20s in his eight events this season, tying for the team lead in top-10 finishes.
Sica and the rest of the Manhattanville squad will close out the regular-season portion of the schedule this weekend, as the Valiants travel to Skidmore for the Palamountain Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
