Valiants Fall to Even in Freedom Play with 3-0 Loss at DeSales

Box Score CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Manhattanville women's volleyball team was little match for a strong DeSales squad in the teams' second Freedom Conference match of the season, as the Valiants fell to the Bulldogs by a 3-0 (25-6,25-11, 25-9) score on Tuesday night at Billera Hall.

The Valiant attack struggled all night long against the Bulldogs, earning only 11 kills in the three sets. Junior Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) had a team-leading five of those kills, while freshman Patricia Alfonso (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertoriqueno de Ninas) had three kills and a team-leading eight digs.

DeSales' Eden Reichard led all players with 10 kills and 14 digs for the match's only double-double, and Brooke Horrigan added 28 assists to lead the home team.

The first set was even at three apiece early on until DeSales went on a 9-0 run to take a commanding lead, and the home team cruised from there to take the opening frame by a 25-6 score. The second set followed a similar script, as Manhattanville stayed with DeSales for the first few points before the home team steadily began to increase its lead. A 6-1 run turned a 4-4 contest into a 10-5 DSU lead, and a subsequent 7-2 run sealed the set.

The Valiants were never fully in the third frame, as DeSales scored 16 of the first 18 points in cruising to the third-set win and the match sweep.

Manhattanville (6-7, 1-1 Freedom) will make a quick turnaround and get back to action tomorrow night, as the Valiants travel more locally to take on non-conference Mount Saint Mary for a 7 p.m. start.
