Men's Soccer Suffers 3-0 Loss At Misericordia

Box Score DALLAS, Pa. – The Manhattanville men's soccer team fell to Misericordia in a Freedom Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0. Misericordia scored early and proved to be too much for the Valiants to make a comeback.

The scoring started just 10 minutes into the match as Misericordia junior midfielder Nick VonEgypt was able to put the ball past freshman goalkeeper Sean McAllister (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) to give the Cougars a lead that they would not relinquish.

Misericordia only waited eight more minutes before putting another ball past McAllister, this one coming off the foot of sophomore midfielder Park McArdle. The teams exchanged scoring chances for the remainder of the half, with neither side converting. The Cougars only had an 8-6 edge in shots at the intermission, but had the two-goal edge on the scoreboard.

Manhattanville looked to start the second half strong as they needed the conference win to help them in the standings. However, a handball inside of the penalty box was called in the 56th minute and Misericordia was awarded a penalty kick, which senior midfielder T.J. Schaefer was able to put past McAllister to give the Cougars a three-goal edge.

Manhattanville played the rest of the match a man down and fought hard to prevent another goal from being scored, but only managed two shots in the second stanza compared to 11 for Misericordia.

McAllister made five saves but allowed all three goals to suffer his first collegiate loss. Sophomore Steve Singson (Deer Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's) came on for the final 5:25 but did not see a shot on goal.

The loss to the Cougars drops Manhattanville's conference record to 0-2. The Valiants will look to recover from this loss as they continue conference play against Eastern University on Wednesday, October 16 at 3:30 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field.
