Men's Soccer Unable to Exorcise the Devils

Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville men's soccer team suffered another scoreless defeat on Tuesday, falling by a score of 1-0 to FDU-Florham. The Valiants played a very solid match, but were unable to finish on the chances they created.

Although the Devils came into the match with nearly four times the amount of goals as the Valiants, they were held to just one on the day by the stingy Manhattanville defense. The lone goal of the match came off the foot of FDU-Florham's junior forward Igor Petrovic in the 74th minute, as he collected the ball in the middle of the field and moved past a pair of Valiant defenders before firing a shot that picked the left corner on a low strike.

Manhattanville fought valiantly to keep their conference hopes alive and finished the match with four shots on net but were unable to put the ball past freshman goalkeeper Nick Mihalik, who posted his fourth shutout of the season. The Valiants' solid effort but inability to score has been an unfortunate trademark on an otherwise promising season; the continued growth of the core freshman class will be pivotal as this team moves forward.

The loss drops Manhattanville (3-10-2, 0-4-1 Freedom) out of contention for a Freedom Conference Tournament berth with two matches still left on the conference slate, while FDU-Florham 10-5-1, 4-1-0 Freedom) moves into first place in the conference standings with the win.

The Valiants will take to the home turf once more on Saturday evening as they will face off against Wilkes University at GoValiants.com Field, as Manhattanville celebrates its two senior players with Senior Day. The squad will look to end on a high note in front of what is sure to be a very spirited Valiant crowd.
