Box Score Doylestown, Pa. – The men's soccer team was able to close out their season with back-to-back victories, as they defeated Delaware Valley on Saturday with a 2-1 (OT) win. The game winning goal was scored by freshman forward
Dan Lorandini (Garden City Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) at 98 minute mark.
Mahattanville upset another Freedom Conference opponent late in the season. The freshman carried the team in this match as the Valiants took a 1-0 lead into half time thanks to a great strike coming off the foot of freshman defender
Jesper Hjalm (Stockholm, Sweden/Huddingegymnasiet).
After recording three saves, sophomore goalkeeper
Steve Singson (Deer Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's) had to leave the match just 10 minutes into the second half due to injury but freshman goalkeeper
Willie Silber (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) was able to come in off the bench and help lead his team to victory. Although Delaware Valley sophomore forward Peter Tantillo was able to tip home a cross from junior defender Kevin Robinson at the 61 minute mark, that was all Silber would allow.
The match went into overtime and neither team had recorded a shot until senior midfielder
Thomas Wagner (Guatemala City, Guatemala/German School), in his last match as a Valiant, fed a pass to Lorandini which he dribbled into the box and beat sophomore keeper Chase Clement down low to seal the game for the Valiants.
After a rough stretch in October, the Valiants were able to end their season on a high note. The freshman class grew quite a bit over the past couple months and developed a chemistry that will help them tremendously as they look forward to next season.
