DeMarco Strikes Twice as Women's Soccer Ends Year with 2-1 Win over DelVal

Sophomore Christie DeMarco had her first career multi-goal game to lead the Valiants to a win.
Box Score DOYLESTOWN, Pa. Sophomore Christie DeMarco (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) scored a pair of first-half goals and the Valiants held on down the stretch as Manhattanville took down Delaware Valley, 2-1 in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the DVC Soccer Field.

DeMarco had a great game offensively to lead the Valiants to the victory, scoring her two goals and generating numerous opportunities that put pressure on the Aggie defense throughout. Classmate Dani Sullivan (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) assisted on both DeMarco scores, while freshman keeper Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) earned the win in goal while also picking up an assist on the eventual game-winning strike.

Manhattanville took to the attack from the opening whistle in the final game of the season, as DeMarco earned a breakaway chance in the first minute of the contest and had some more bad luck when her shot caromed squarely off the post and out.

But the sophomore continued to press forward and was rewarded for the persistence, scoring twice to give her squad a two-goal lead at the intermission. The Valiant striker struck first after a redirection by Sullivan sprung DeMarco for a chance that she buried past DelVal keeper Julie Burnell to make it 1-0 Valiants. Later in the half, Diemicke started a scoring play with a booming punt that was flicked on to DeMarco for a breakaway chance that she converted to double the Valiant lead.

Delaware Valley did not go away in the second half, scoring once to make it a one-goal game. The Aggies nearly tied the score late in the contest, but sophomore keeper Grace Kraemer (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made a huge save by knocking the ball wide on a point-blank chance to keep her team on top.

Manhattanville finishes its 2013 season with a 5-11-3 (2-3-2 Freedom) record, ending the year with a three-match unbeaten streak. With no seniors on this year's roster, all 20 players are on track to return as the Valiants hope to make a run at a conference championship in 2014.
