Women's Ice Hockey Falls 1-0 to #2/1 Ranked Plattsburgh St.

Box Score
Northfield, Vt. - The women's ice hockey team finished their opening weekend at the ECAC East-West Classic with a close loss to #2/1 ranked Plattsburgh State by a final score of 1-0 on Sunday at Norwich's Kreitzberg Arena. The Valiants battled hard but were unable to sustain much offensive pressure versus the talented Cardinals.

Goaltending was the story of this game as junior goaltender Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) was once again a dominant force, turning away 28 of the 29 shots she faced on the day. Plattsburgh's senior goaltender Sydney Aveson was able to record her first shutout of the season, turning away all 14 of the shots she faced from the Valiants. Both Shaughnessy and Aveson were named to the All-Tournament team following the conclusion of the weekend.

The only goal scored on the day was a first-period tally by Plattsburgh's sophomore defender Bridget Balisy. The goal was unassisted and proved to be enough for the Cardinals to hold on for the victory.

Althought the Valiants finished the weekend 0-1-1, both results came against the #1 and #2 ranked teams in both national polls. This is certainly a great starting point for a young team that is looking to make a big impact on the ECAC East this year and land back in the conference finals.

Manhattanville will take next week off before returning to action on November 15 at UMass Boston starting at 4 p.m.
