Women's Hockey Gets Revenge on Bison with 1-0 Win

Traun Nets Lone Goal
Box Score BURRILLVILLE, R.I.-The Manhattanville women's hockey team rebounding from their loss last night, defeated Nichols College by a score of 1-0 on Saturday.  The lone goal of the game coming off the stick of junior forward Alla Traun (Edina, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds (JWHL)).

The Valiants were disappointed after losing a heartbreaker to Nichols last night and were determined to right the ship as they traveled to Rhode Island.

Manhattanville jumped out to an early lead with Traun scoring a power play goal just five minutes into the first period.  The first line for the Valiants, which has only been kept off the score sheet once this season, connected again with the assists coming from juniors Sydney Asselstine (Hartington, Ontario/Nepean Wildcats (PWHL)) and Michele Meggiolaro (Whippany, N.J./New Jersey Colonials (MAWHA))

One goal is all the Valiants would need as junior goaltender Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) posted a 16-save shutout, her first of the season.  Nichols senior goaltender Francesca Palazzo was equally as impressive as last night, turning away 26 of the 27 shots she faced.

The Valiants have nearly a month off as they don't take the ice again until January 4, when they will take on Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
