Box Score UNION, N.J. – The Manhattanville women's soccer team kept Kean off the board for over 81 minutes, but the Cougars sprung for three goals in the final 8:34 of regulation to deal the Valiants a 3-0 loss in non-conference action on Saturday night at Alumni Stadium.
Thanks to another good effort in goal from freshman
Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge), Manhattanville (2-4) hung with Kean (3-2-1) for almost the entire match, but in the end was done in by a four-minute stretch in which the home team scored three times to make the score look worse than it was.
After the Valiants limited Kean's offensive chances for most of the contest, Amanda Repko broke through for the Cougars at the 81:26 mark, putting home a corner kick off the foot of Shannon Pederson to make it 1-0.
Less than two and a half minutes later, Shelby Wallace put a ball into the top-right corner from the top of the 18 to double the Kean lead, and Angie Lopez added a third tally two and half minutes after that.
Diemicke played a great game up until the final few minutes, and still finished the match with 10 saves in 90 minutes of action. KC Nunez was tested only once and came up strong to earn the shutout victory.
Manhattanville will head back to New Jersey for its next match, as the Valiants travel to Drew for a Tuesday night matchup starting at 7 p.m.
