Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville men's basketball team could not knock D3hoops.com #18 SUNY Purchase from the ranks of the unbeaten in the Battle of Anderson Hill Road on Saturday night, as the Valiants fell to the nationally ranked Panthers by an 82-64 score in a non-conference contest.
Andre Nixon helped Purchase (10-0) to its 10th straight win with the game's only double-double, scoring 27 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. No other Panther reached double figures, but eight other Purchase players had at least two field goals.
Sophomore
Anthony Maestre (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy) led Manhattanville (5-8) in a losing effort with 24 points, followed by senior
Jack Bramswig (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) with 16 points and a team-leading eight rebounds.
The Valiants started out well, scoring the first five points of the night and holding a 10-7 lead 5:36 into the contest following a three-pointer from Maestre. But Purchase went on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 21-12 lead with 8:39 remaining in the half, and also closed the frame with eight straight points to make the score 39-26 at the break.
Following a three by Maestre to open the half, the Panthers went on another game-changing run, scoring 14 of the next 17 points to open up a 53-32 lead with 12:49 left that did not allow the visitors a chance to get back into the contest.
Manhattanville finished the game shooting 40.4 percent (23 for 57) from the field, while Purchase connected at an even 50.0 percent (30 for 60) clip from the field.
Saturday's game marks the end of Manhattanville's non-conference slate, as the Valiants' final 12 games of the year all come against Freedom Conference competition. The Valiants begin the all-important final stretch on Wednesday at 8 p.m. on the road against FDU-Florham.
