FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Alena Gannon recorded a hat trick to account for all the scoring as Farmingdale State College, ranked sixth in the East Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, defeated Manhattanville College by a 3-0 score in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at the FSU Athletic Complex.
Gannon provided all the offense Farmingdale State (7-3-2) needed in the contest, registering her first career hat trick. Coming off the bench, she scored her three goals on a match-high six shots, including five on-target attempts.
Farmingdale State set the tone by putting a shot toward the Valiant goal just 13 seconds into the match, as the Rams presented an early attack. Manhattanville (2-8-0) managed to successfully keep the Rams off the scoreboard until the 34th minute, when Gannon netted her first of the game after collecting an Ashlee Thompson cross to open the scoring.
Gannon added her second of the contest in the 43rd minute to give her squad a 2-0 lead at the half. Farmingdale outshot Manhattanville 14-1 over the first 45 minutes of play.
The theme continued into the second half, with the Rams posting a 17-1 advantage in shot attempts. Gannon completed her hat trick in the 76th minute when she collected a rebound and found the back of the net again.
