Schaufele, Hammerle and Alcaraz Lead Valiants Past Bulldogs

CENTER VALLEY, PA. – Four goals were scored in a frantic final 20 minutes of play as the Valiants improved to 2-1 in Freedom Conference play, beating the Bulldogs of Desales University by a final score of 3-2. The Valiants were aided by two goals from freshman Robin Schaufele (Kalix, Sweden/Kungsfaegeln), while sophomore Rob Hammerle (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) tallied his first goal of the season and the first multi-point game of his Valiants career.

After making the trip to Center Valley, the Valiants wasted little time getting on the board as Hammerle found the back of the net off a cross from junior Michael Alcaraz (Burbank, Calif./Burbank) in the 14th minute. Neither Hammerle nor Alcaraz were done at that point as both players would go on to assist on Schaufele's goals, in the 71st and 80th minutes, respectively.

With the Valiants at a comfortable 3-0 lead in the 81st minute, the team took their foot off the gas a little, allowing DeSales to make a close match of it. DeSales' midfielder Marcus Morris picked up his first goal of the year in the 83rd minute, putting home a rebound following Singson's save on Wes Frebel's header.

DeSales continued pressing and made things very interesting when Joey Malvestuto scored in the 90th minute. Malvestuto's goal was created by Frebel, who fired a shot off the post, which Malvestuto put into the back of the net.

The Valiants were able to escape with the win and are poised nicely to secure a spot in the Freedom Conference playoffs if they can continue to match their play thus far on the season. Manhattanville will play host to Misericordia this Friday evening at 7 p.m., in what should prove to be a raucous atmosphere at GoValiants.com Field.
