Field Hockey Season Finale Ends With 3-0 Loss To FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J.- The Manhattanville field hockey team ended its season against Freedom Conference top team FDU-Florham on Tuesday night, falling to the Devils by a final score of 3-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin Halloran (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown East) continued to impress in net for Manhattanville (4-14, 1-6 Freedom), collecting 12 saves on 24 shots from FDU-Florham (12-6, 6-1 Freedom). The win for the Devils gives them the top seed headed into the Freedom Conference playoffs.

The Valiants struggled to get much going offensively against a strong FDU defense. Devils' goalkeeper Amy Defnet saw seven shots total from Manhattanville, turning aside five of them for the shutout.

FDU scored its first goal in the 12th minute, coming off a deflection from Kim Davis, giving the Devils an early 1-0 lead. Davis continued to cause problems for the Manhattanville defense, assisting on the game's second goal in the 33rd minute off the stick of Niki Ikeda. After only taking two shots in the first half, the Valiants trailed by two at halftime.

The Devils eventually added an additional goal 15 minutes into the second half, making it difficult for Manhattanville to mount a comeback. For graduate student Kirsten Savage (Harrington Park, N.J./Old Tappan), it was her final game with the Valiants as the season officially comes to a close.
