WESTFIELD, Mass. – Manhattanville College dropped an 84-65 decision to host Westfield State University on day one of the 2014 Rick Martin/Holiday Inn Express Tournament, hosted by the Owls on Saturday afternoon at the Woodward Center.
Manhattanville (0-1) falls into the consolation game with the defeat, and will face the loser of tonight's second game between Bowdoin and Elms tomorrow at 1 p.m. Westfield State (1-0) will face the Bowdoin-Elms winner in the championship game.

Juan Camacho (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/New Horizons) matched his career high with a team-best 17 points, shooting 5-of-9 from the field and also connecting on seven of his nine free throws. Classmate
Anthony Maestre (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy) and senior
Connor Quigley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) both reached double figures as well with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Andre King led all scorers with 26 points for Westfield State and also led all players with six assists and four steals. Robby Jones recorded 14 points and Jesus Sanchez posted the game's only double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Owls.
The Valiants had trouble all night long on the glass against Westfield, finishing the night on the wrong end of a 42-23 rebounding disparity. As a result, the home team posted a 48-20 advantage in points in the paint and also had 13 second-chance points to just four for the visitors.
Westfield State scored the first basket of the season to take an early lead and kept that advantage for most of the opening half. The WSU lead grew to as many as 10 points in the first half with 3:12 left before a Maestre and five straight points from freshman
Chris Ayson (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) got the Valiants back within four.
A King jumper just before the buzzer gave Westfield a 37-32 lead at the break. Both teams shot around 40 percent in the opening half, but the Owls took nine more shots thanks to grabbing nearly as many offensive rebounds (10) as Manhattanville had total rebounds (11).
The Valiants hung around in the first few minutes of the second half, keeping it a five-point deficit at 47-42 with 15:17 remaining after a pair of free throws by junior
Darius Christmas (Hackensack, N.J./Paramus Catholic). Westfield followed that up with a 12-1 run made it a 59-43 game with 11:24 left and the Valiants never got within single digits the rest of the way.
Manhattanville finished the day shooting 37.2 percent (16 for 43) from the field, while Westfield State used 54.3 percent shooting in the second half to finish the day at 47.8 percent (32 for 67).
