Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – On a dreary Saturday afternoon the Manhattanville women's hockey team traveled to Massachusetts and managed a 2-2 tie with the sixth ranked team in the country, the Amherst Jeffs. Freshman
Maeve O'Brien (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) registered the first multi-point game of her career, assisting on one goal and scoring what would go on to be the game-tying goal.
Senior forward
Aubrey Bachand (Harwichport, Mass./Vermont Academy) continues to find the back of the net, putting home her fifth goal of the season, giving the Valiants a 1-0 lead. Helping on Bachand's goal were sophomore
Lindsay Diot (Bethel, Conn./Boston Shamrocks) and the freshman O'Brien.
Carrying the lead into the second period, the Jeffs quickly equalized as Audrey Doucette slid the puck past senior
Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter), tying the game 1-1. Shaughnessy was impressive in between the pipes, turning away 32 of the 34 shots she faced including three in the overtime period.
The Valiants continued to make the most of their opportunities as just over five minutes later, O'Brien gave the Valiants a 2-1 lead when she put in her first goal as a Valiant. Sophomore
Scotia Bellavance (Campbell River, B.C./Pacific Steelers) tallied her first assist of the season on the play.
The Valiants, holding a 2-1 lead in the third period, had their upset dreams dashed short as Tori Salmon tied the game at the 5:54 mark of the third. Salmon's goal, her sixth of the season, would prove to be the last goal scored as the teams played the remaining 20+ minutes to a draw.
In a quick turnaround the Valiants will face Williams College Sunday afternoon at 5 P.M.
