Volleyball Retains Anderson Hill Road Bragging Rights with 3-0 Win over Purchase

Junior Jillian Chittenden led all players with eight kills in Friday's straight-set win.
Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women's volleyball team retained Anderson Hill Road bragging rights for the 11th consecutive time as the Valiants started off 2014 with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-14) victory over SUNY Purchase on Friday night at Kennedy Gym.
 
The Valiants used a balanced offensive attack to take out the Panthers in straight sets, hitting .235 as a team with 19 service aces. Junior Jillian Chittenden (Rye, N.Y./Rye) led all players with eight kills without an error, hitting a stellar .615 for the evening, followed closely by freshman Meagan Dattoma (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) with seven kills and a team-high 10 digs.
 
Senior Amanda Materasso (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) and junior Allison Regan (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) both chipped in five kills apiece as well, while sophomore Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) added a match-high 16 assists and seven service aces for Manhattanville (1-0).
 
Freshman Julia Chirlin put down eight kills to lead Purchase (0-1), while sophomore Sarah Gabler added six kills and a match-high 13 digs for the visitors.
 
Manhattanville was in control all night long against Purchase, never trailing in a set after a Regan kill and a Quinabo ace made the first frame 2-1 in favor of the Valiants. The home team had eight aces altogether in the opening set and also got five kills from Dattoma to jump out to an early lead.
 
The Valiants were on point during the final two sets, hitting .308 with only one error in the middle stanza and then putting 10 kills with two errors (.348 hitting) to close out the match. Chittenden provided the punch during the third set, posting five kills on eight attempts and also adding a block.
 
Manhattanville will continue its busy opening weekend tomorrow, as the squad hosts the first of two Valiant Tri-Matches this season against Maritime and John Jay. The Valiants take on the Privateers in the first match at 11 a.m., and then close the day against the Bloodhounds at 3 p.m. Both matches will be video streamed live on GoValiants.TV.
