Waugh and Fleming Lead Men's Hockey to 1-1 Tie with #13/15 Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Sophomore assistant captain Teagan Waugh (Nanaimo, B.C./Powell River Kings (BCHL)) continued his red-hot start to 2015 with another goal and senior Brian Fleming (Saint John, N.B./Northern Cyclones (AJHL)) turned aside 37 shots as Manhattanville College skated to a 1-1 (OT) tie with #13/15 Williams College in non-conference men's hockey action on Friday afternoon at the Lansing Chapman Ice Rink.

The reigning ECAC West Conference Co-Player of the Week, Waugh scored for the third straight contest and the fifth time in the last three games midway through the third period to keep the Valiants unbeaten (1-0-2) against nationally ranked opposition this season.

After the Valiants had the Ephs scrambling in the defensive zone, Waugh finished off a feed from the reigning ECAC West Conference Rookie of the Week, freshman Stephen Gaul (Downers Grove, Ill./Springfield Pics (USPHL)), for his eighth goal of the year. The goal came at 11:38 of the third to even the score and provide the final goal of the night.

After a scoreless first period in which Manhattanville (6-5-4) killed off three Eph power plays, Williams (8-3-2) got on the board first 2:31 into the second stanza on Luke Stickel's fifth goal of the year.

But that was all Williams could get against Fleming, whose 37 saves marked his third-highest output of the season. The home team finished the night with a 38-27 edge in shots but could not out-score the visitors.

The Valiant penalty kill finished the night perfect in four chances, while the Ephs successfully killed off all three penalties as well.

Manhattanville will look to follow up this result with a win tomorrow night, as the Valiants get back into the ECAC West Conference gauntlet when they travel to Utica for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Pioneers.
