Pabon Powers Women’s Basketball Past Albertus Magnus, 82-60

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Led by four players finishing in double-figures, including a game-high 21 points from senior Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn./Newington), the Manhattanville women's basketball team defeated Albertus Magnus on Thursday night by a final score of 82-60.

To go with her 21 points, Pabon added five assists, five rebounds and four steals in the Manhattanville (8-4) victory. The Valiants shot a stifling 56.7 percent (34-of-60) from the floor and were able to heckle Albertus Magnus (5-7) down low, scoring 42 points inside the paint. Junior Ashley Raaf (Rockaway Beach, N.Y./Christ The King) was also efficient in the contest, tallying 19 points, connecting on eight of her 13 shots.

Junior Ashley Franklin (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) and senior Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) added 12 and 11 points for the Valiants, respectively. For Caiazzo, it was only the second contest that she did not register a double-double, grabbing six boards in the contest, putting her seven rebounds away from becoming the second Valiant to ever register 1,000 rebounds.

Both teams kept the game close for majority of the first half until the Valiants started to pull away. The Falcons appeared to be the stronger team in the first nine minutes of play, taking advantage of missed opportunities from the Valiants, leading 16-14 at the 11:01 mark. It did not take long for Manhattanville to start heating up, as the Valiants started to knock down shots, jumping out on a 13-4 run, taking a 27-20 lead with 5:17 left in the half. With the Valiants getting good looks inside, Manhattanville eventually took a 37-23 lead into the half.

Despite the Falcons scoring the first two baskets of the second half, the Valiants would never allow Albertus Magnus to pull within single digits. Raaf started to catch fire in the second half, scoring the first seven points for Manhattanville on three consecutive possessions. Shooting with a hot hand, the Valiants eventually led by as many as 29 points, jumping out to a 75-56 lead with just under seven minutes remaining before winning by a final score of 82-60.

Manhattanville will play its final non-conference game on Saturday as the Valiants take on Simmons at 1 p.m.
